Like many Muslim countries, Indonesia holds Musabaqah Tilawatil Quran (MTQ) or Al Quran Reading competion as a national event. It has been one of the biggest competion held in the nation started from the lowest level of the country administration (Kelurahan) all the way to national level.
This competition was started for the first time in Makassar in 1968. It was national annual event then until 1977. From 1979 this event was held biennially.
