Batam Bintan Karimun Free Trade Zone Council held a seminar on Investment Potential and Tourism Destination in Kepulauan Riau Province of Indonesia in Moscow on Thursday, 24th October 2013. The seminar took place at Sputnik Hotel Moscow.

According to Mr. Elman Krisos, the Head of Investment and Licensing Department of the FTZ Council Secretariat, this seminar is aimed at promoting investment potential and facilities in the area stipulated as free trade and free port under Indonesian Law. The zone consists of the whole Batam Island, Karimun Island and some enclave areas on Bintan Island. He said that this seminar was the first of 3 such event planned for this year. After Moscow, the similar event will take place in Seoul on third week of November and Japan on first week of December.

Under the Indonesian Government Regulation No. 1, 2000 which have been passed as a Law No 36, 2000, a free trade zone or free port is an area in the Indonesian territory  which is treated apart from Indonesian custom area and enjoy the exemption of the imposition of import tax, import duties, excise, value added tax and sales tax on luxurious goods. Based on this law, these facilities only applicable for goods and services imported from overseas or other part of Indonesia for local use in the free trade zone or export purposes.

According to Noam Lazuardy, Third Secretary of The Economic Division to the Indonesian Embassy in Moscow, his division sent out around 150 invitations to the Russian businessmen. The seminar was attended by around 100 Russian businessmen and executives from various industries who met with 16 member of delegates from Riau Island Province led by Anshar Achmad, The Regent of Bintan and the 1st Deputy Chairman of Bintan Free Trade Zone , Syahrul, The Vice Mayor of Tanjungpinang, Mardhiah, Head of Bintan Free Trade Area of Bintan Regency, Den Yealta, Head of Bintan Trade Area of Tanjungpinang and Cendra, Head of Karimun Free Trade Area, Herry Ardianto, Head of Planning Department and Iwan Setia Gunawan Head of Finance Department of the FTZ Council Secretariat.  Among the Russian Businessmen attended the seminar were Alexander I. Shmakov, SEA Regional Sales Directror  of Russian Sukhoi Aeroplane maker and Russian businessman Oleg Grobulin whose company had started his investment on Resort Property on Bintan Island Indonesia since 2010.

Indonesian Deputy Chief of Mission to Russian and Belarus Moenir Ari Soenanda, address the Seminar Participants and followed by Regent Anshar Achmad. Both Arisoenanda and Achmad urged Russian businessmen to see the huge potential in Riau Islands province. Regent Anshar Achmad even made a special promise that Russian investor will be treated as part of Riau Island people and assured full support and assistance in the paperwork procedure. After the speech from Ari Soenanda and Achmad, Mardhiah, Den Yealta and Muhammad Iqbal  gave their presentation on investment facilities and potential at their respective areas to the seminar participants.

Thank to full support of Indonesian Embassy in Moscow, the seminar took place successfully with enthusiasm by the participant until end of the seminar with dinner.
