Citilink Spin Off From Garuda Indonesia

To participate in the fast growing low fares segment of the market and provide the tradition of quality, safety and security of the Garuda Indonesia group for this segment, Citilink plan to spin off as a new business entity from it’s corporate parent. PT Citilink Indonesia will commence operations as a separate company within the first semester of this year.

“We will focus on spinning off from Garuda after we get the air operator certificate (AOC),” Con Korfiatis, a Garuda adviser for the development of Citilink, said to reporter in Jakarta on 31 January last month. Korfiatis made the statement to the press after he announced the issuance of a Scheduled Commercial Air Business License (SIUAU/NB) from the ministry of transportation.

He said that after obtaining the SIUAU/NB), Citilink would process the AOC to become a genuine and self-reliant airline which was no longer a strategy business unit (SBU) of Garuda. AOC is issued by the National Flight Authority for a commercial airline after the airlines concerned provides its complete data on personnel, asset and its airlines system.

Presently Citilink operates five new Boeing B737-300 airplanes, each with a 148 seat capacity. Recently it added three modern Airbus A320 jets which seat up to 180 passengers. In February will be coming 2 more units of A320. Citilink’s daily network serves Surabaya, Batam, Banjarmasin, Denpasar, Balikpapan, Medan and Makassar from two hubs in Jakarta and Surabaya.

In 2012 it plans to quadruple the number of Airbus A320s in it’s fleet, from 5 to 20. Citilink’s national network will offer far more destinations by the end of the year. Other new destinations already on the lists for this year are Yogyakarta, Padang, Semarang and Pekanbaru.

Currently, Citilink is promoting low fare ticket at Rp. 139.000 to all destinations it flying.
